The department consists of a group of qualified and well-experienced faculty who have published numerous articles in SCI and Scopus-indexed journals and Indian and International patent applications in the emerging field of Science and Technology. They also contribute to the social and academic development of both the department and the University by organizing and participating in campaigns and events of social relevance.

The diversified field of Civil Engineering permits to conduct research and consultancy activities in domains such as innovative interface material, traffic-resistant pavement material, and shear strength of high-strength concrete, recycled aggregates, bio-concrete, and basalt fiber concrete. The department is established with basic and advanced laboratory facilities and is embraced with four well-equipped laboratories of advanced research, namely the coconut shell concrete research lab, the earthquake research cell, centre for advanced concrete research, Coastal Resource Exploration Lab. which were established from the eleven external and internal funded projects by DST and SRM Institute of Science and Technology.
